Michael Van Alstyne is the Director of Financial Planning and Administration at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington. In this role, Michael oversees the assessment and evaluation of financial performance with regard to long-term operational goals, budgets, and forecasts. He provides guidance to leadership and key decision-makers in research management and proposal development on pairing financial projections with research plans and proposals.
Michael has extensive experience in financial and operational analysis and management, having worked in the private sector for over 25 years before joining IHME. Most recently, he served as the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis at Colliers International United States and, previously, in leadership roles at T-Mobile USA Inc. and Microsoft. Michael earned an MBA in Corporate Finance and Operations Management from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Stanford University.
IHME was established at the University of Washington in Seattle in 2007. Its mission is to improve health through better health evidence.
