Rakhi Dandona, PhD is a Clinical Professor of Health Metrics Sciences at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation.
Dr. Dandona has expertise in large-scale epidemiology studies, and has focussed on disease/conditions for which such data are not readily available in India. Over the last twenty years, she has been a lead investigator on a variety of epidemiological studies including multi-country collaborations on injuries, HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health, blindness and mortality estimation. Injury research is of particular interest and her work covers road injury, suicide, drowning, and falls.
In the last few years, Dr. Dandona’s work has increasingly been with a variety of secondary data to identify gaps in indicators that form basis of the health information system for decision-making. A variety of national surveys and administrative data are of interest with a particular focus on quality and utilisation of these data.
Dr. Dandona has held several grants for public health research in India including from the Wellcome Trust, UK and the National Institutes of Health, USA. She has published over 165 peer-reviewed papers. She serves as an Associate Editor for Injury Prevention and Academic Editor for PLOS One. She is passionate about research capacity-building. Previously, Dr. Dandona was the Head of Population Health Research Division at the George Institute for International Health India, Hyderabad and Associate Professor at the University of Sydney School of Public Health.
