Peter Speyer, IHME’s Chief Data and Technology Officer, will speak on “Measuring population health” at the Big Data & Analytics in Healthcare Summit.
Health-related decisions should be based on data, at the individual and at the population level. The Global Burden of Disease study synthesizes data from over 38,000 sources to quantify the total burden of diseases and injuries. It provides data on the health impacts of over 300 diseases and 70 injuries; the results can be compared across 188 countries by age and sex back to 1990. Mr. Speyer will discuss how IHME orchestrates the complex work required to put together the study, forming a Data Value Chain. He will show the results and insights in interactive data visualizations, and the talk will culminate in examples of how the data have ultimately been used to improve health.
