IHME Director Christopher Murray and several members of the IHME faculty and staff were invited to participate in an event at the White House recognizing the work of Let’s Move! Cities, Towns and Counties. During the event, First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama cited IHME research when discussing the importance of healthier diets and increasing physical activity in the US. Her remarks were followed by a briefing from Dr. Murray on trends in US life expectancy, obesity, and physical activity to mayors and local officials from 39 counties and the many other stakeholders in attendance. His analysis was based on data from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2010, and more detailed descriptions of the national and county-level findings for the US were published in three papers in the Journal of the American Medical Association and Population Health Metrics.
