Master of Public Health in Health Metrics and Evaluation

The Health Metrics and Evaluation (HME) track of the MPH in Global Health is designed for students who are interested in pursuing a traditional public health degree while developing a specialty in the science of health measurement.  Students develop skills and expertise to manage health programs and initiatives while being effective global health researchers and leaders.

Overview 

  • Provides students with a fundamental understanding of public health disciplines: biostatistics, epidemiology, health services, and environmental health.
  • Focuses on training students in traditional and innovative statistical methods and how these can be applied to global health research.
  • Designed for students who intend to pursue careers in quantitative research, methods and modeling development, survey design and analysis, health system and program evaluation, policy analysis, or academia.
  • Interdisciplinary curriculum.
  • 63 credit minimum.
  • 10 to 15 students admitted annually.

Objectives

  • Enrich understanding of population health methodologies and health system performance measurement.
  • Cultivate proficiencies in statistical methods and analytical techniques.
  • Advance aptitude to conduct impact evaluation studies.
  • Develop programming dexterity in multiple statistical packages.
  • Foster ability to design surveys and evaluate programs.

PhD program in Global Health: Metrics and Implementation Science

The Department of Global Health, in collaboration with the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation and Health Alliance International, have developed a PhD program in Global Health that is the first of its kind, building on the expertise of our faculty in the areas of metrics and implementation science. The PhD program provides students with the latest and most innovative tools to advance global health solutions that are critical for decision-making and priority setting.
