Verbal autopsy (VA) is a method of determining individuals’ causes of death and cause-specific mortality fractions in populations without a complete vital registration system. Dr. Abraham Flaxman explains the importance of verbal autopsy and how updated software is improving this method.

IHME commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Spanish Flu, which reportedly caused one-third of the world to become sick and killed an estimated 100 million people. It was possibly the deadliest epidemic in human history.
