Global Burden of Disease (GBD) online training


The GBD online training provides an overview of the GBD and provides interactive opportunities to use and explore GBD results.

The Introduction to the GBD is an online training that provides a general overview of the GBD to help learners understand the conceptual framework, the key metrics, and the analytical strategies used in the study. This online course also provides interactive opportunities to use and explore GBD results through our visualization tools, and examples of how to translate GBD evidence into action. This online training provides a certifies you as a Level 1 user of the GBD.

The course consists of 19 modules with over 50 lessons that cover a broad range of content in order to provide skill and knowledge development in key areas. Lessons and materials can be accessed anytime, from anywhere, including on smartphones and tablets.

This training is designed for individuals who are looking for an introduction to the GBD. This includes researchers, academic leaders, students, policymakers, government employees, and staff from private and non-profit organizations, foundations, and national and multinational health organizations.

CURRICULUM

The curriculum is organized into three components:

Foundation modules

Provide an opportunity to explore and understand key terms and concepts, principles, analytical strategy, and conceptual framework.

Case studies

Help bring together various elements of the GBD and help make connections between the different analytical processes and use of GBD results and tools.

How the GBD can be used to improve the world’s health

Explore real-world examples of how GBD has been used by individuals or groups to influence health policy and improve health at local, regional, or global levels. 

Pricing

The total cost of the online course is $200.00 USD. We do offer the course at a discounted rate of $50.00USD for students as well as individuals working in low- or lower-middle-income countries as defined by the World Bank (http://www.healthdata.org/sites/default/files/files/World Bank Country Categories.pdf ). Criteria for discounted rate eligibility are below:
•    Students currently seeking a degree (associate's, baccalaureate, master’s, doctorate) in any country
•    Faculty and teachers at any educational institution in any country
•    Individuals working for nonprofit organizations in low- or low-middle-income countries
