Position Description
The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) is an independent research center at the University of Washington. IHME has an excellent opportunity for a Graduate Research Assistant (hereto referred to as research assistant) to join the Reproductive, Genitourinary and Digestive Disease (RGUD) team. This position will support a grant funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation titled ‘Improved estimation of maternal health loss in the Global Burden of Disease study.’ The research assistant will support RGUD staff in systematically identifying, assessing, and organizing available quantitative data from scientific literature to further work in improving our understanding and estimation of the impact of maternal disorders and risk factors on population health and well-being.
The research assistant will already have a command of epidemiology, statistics, disease modeling, or related interests. The RGUD team will help the research assistant develop an understanding of our core research and methodology.
Duties may include the following tasks, with guidance from the grant Principal Investigator, researchers, and other key project staff:
- Conducting systematic reviews by identifying, extracting, reviewing, transforming, and assessing data sources to determine their relevance and utility for ongoing analysis.
- Participate in other research activities as needed by the project.
- Currently enrolled student (graduate or higher) at the University of Washington during AY 23/24.
- Minimum registration in order to hold an ASE appointment is 10 credits during the regular academic year and 2 credits during Summer Quarter unless an approved petition for reduced enrollment is on file with the Graduate School.
- Experience with statistical methods for data analyses.
- Interest in public health.
- Ability to work independently.
- Very strong analytic, creative, and writing skills.
- Proficiency in natural language processing is a plus.

- Proficiency in R or Python.
