Latest version of omicron accounts for most new infections in many parts of the U.S., genomics testing shows

 A new model from the University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation forecasts no surge in the near term.

Ali H. Mokdad, an epidemiologist at the institute, said he expects another rise in cases late in the year, when cold weather returns in parts of the nation and people gather inside.
