Maria de Fatima Marinho de Souza

Dr. Fatima Marinho is a national of Brazil. She obtained her degree in medicine from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and then completed her medical residency, a Master of Public Health, and a doctorate in Preventive Medicine/Epidemiology at the University of Sao Paulo. Dr. Marinho was a fellow student at the University of Quebec. She worked at the University of Sao Paulo - Faculty of Medicine as a medical researcher from 1997 to 2003, when she was relocated to the Brazilian Ministry of Health as Coordinator of Epidemiology Analysis. She was responsible for the Vital Statistics Systems in Brazil and the project for its improvement. In 2008, she moved to Washington, DC, to work at the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), coordinating the Information and Health Analysis Project. Since 2012, she has served as an advisor for the Regional Health Observatory at PAHO. She returned to work at the Ministry of Health in Brazil from 2014 until 2019, when she started working as a senior advisor at the Vital Strategies organization. She also serves as a professor of public health at the federal university of Minas Gerais, Brazil.
