Chronic kidney disease due to glomerulonephritis — Level 4 cause

Summary Chronic kidney disease (CKD) due to glomerulonephritis was responsible for 6·90 million (95% UI 5·78–8·13) DALYs and 16·6% (14·3–19·2) of total overall CKD DALYs in 2019.

Definition This causes incorporates death and disability due to chronic kidney disease that is due to glomerulonephritis.

Table 1: Total sources used in GBD 2019 estimation
What is new in GBD 2019?
  • •Excess mortality data (EMR) were modelled in MR-BRT by age and sex as a function of HAQ Index.
  • •Adjustments for alternative CKD estimating equations were applied prior to DisMod-MR. These adjustments increased estimates for stage 3 but resulted in small changes for stages 4 and 5 compared to previous rounds of GBD. The reference equation is CKD-EPI.
