Chronic lymphoid leukemia — Level 4 cause

Summary There were 103 000 incident cases (95% UI 93 500–119 000), 44 600 deaths (40 400–50 100), and 948 000 (874 000–1 070 000) DALYs due to chronic lymphoid leukaemia globally in 2019.

Definition This cause includes death and disability resulting from invasive neoplasms of the blood and bone marrow (specifically chronic lymphoid leukaemia), including ICD-10 codes such as C91.1.

What is new in GBD 2019?
  • •New location-years of population-based cancer registry data were added.
  • •The minimum age group modelled was increased from 15–19 to 20–24 years.
  • •Mortality-to-incidence ratio models included additional data and were modified to perform more smoothing across time and age.
  • •Survival estimation was updated to use age-specific rather than all-ages survival curves, impacting age-specific prevalence and YLD estimates.
