Summary The global burden of intestinal nematode infections in 2019 was 2090 deaths (95% UI 1640–2640) and 1·97 million (1·26–3·00) DALYs.
Definition Infections with intestinal nematodes, also known as soil-transmitted helminths, are caused by intestinal parasites: ascariasis (Ascaris lumbricoides), trichuriasis (Trichuris trichiura), and hookworm disease (Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus). We model mortality due to ascariasis and non-fatal burden for all three helminthic diseases.

What is new in GBD 2019?
- •A new covariate for mass drug administration was added to the ST-GPR models to account for the impact of interventions on prevalence, along with updated covariates for water and sanitation coverage.
