Summary Globally, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) was responsible for 27 700 deaths (95% UI 12 100–60 900) in 2019. 2620 of these deaths (1480–4980) occurred in ages 7–27 days and 25 100 of these deaths (10 500–56 100) occurred in ages 28–364 days.
Definition SIDS is mortality in ages 7–364 days, where there is no clinical or pathological explanation for cause of death through any method, including an autopsy (ICD-10 R95).
