In this seminar Drs. Abraham Flaxman and Bernardo Hernández Prado present and discuss the development of methods to analyze causes of death based on verbal autopsy information. They describe the definition, history and development of verbal autopsies and also discuss in detail different approaches to ascertain the cause of death using automated methods, and the tools and logistics involved in electronic data collection with emphasis in the methods developed at IHME. This presentation will set the ground to listen about different applications of verbal autopsy methods in the following sessions of this cycle of seminars, presented by the Health Metrics Sciences department.
