World Immunization Week | Dr. Chris J.L. Murray

Published April 27, 2021

In honor of WHO World Immunization Week, IHME Director Dr. Chris J.L. Murray discusses the essential role that vaccinations play in combating global health challenges, like the COVID-19 pandemic.

Transcript: World Immunization Week brings appropriate attention to the crucial role of vaccination, particularly for children, in improving global health. And in the era of COVID, we are seeing the extraordinary role of vaccination in helping bring down the toll of COVID. What's happened in Israel, what's happened in the United Kingdom, where incidence is really coming to a very low level, where vaccination rates have got to a high level, is proof of the potential that we know from the clinical trials. Vaccination is one of the mainstays for dealing with global health challenges and I think COVID has just made that all the more clear to us all.
