Rob Aldridge

Principal Research Scientist

Rob Aldridge, MBBS MEng MSc FFPH PhD, is Principal Research Scientist and Team Leader for the Clinical Informatics team at IHME. The Clinical Informatics team serve as stewards of clinical data sources from across the globe by facilitating data access, building data infrastructure that promotes research, and establishing best practices for data processing.

Rob qualified in medicine from University College London (UCL) in 2007 and trained as a public health physician in the United Kingdom. He gained an MSc in Epidemiology at The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 2010 and completed his PhD in infectious disease epidemiology at UCL in 2015. Prior to his clinical training, he studied Mechanical Engineering at The University of Nottingham and worked in management consultancy. Rob was a Professor of Public Health Data Science at UCL where he remains an honorary Full Professor before he joined IHME in August 2023.

Rob's research aims to equitably improve the health of the public through the application of data science and public health research. He aims to make invisible populations visible by using data to understand the health needs of people experiencing homelessness, substance use, imprisonment or migration. Recently, Rob was also Chief Investigator for the Virus Watch study which made a wide range of research contributions to the pandemic response in the UK and globally.
