Vaccine coverage

Vaccines are a powerful tool for saving lives and improving health, but their power can be diluted by gaps in coverage. We study routine childhood immunizations to understand and address these gaps.

Over 99% of measles cases and deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries; all of these could be prevented by vaccination.
Only 11 out of 204 countries and territories reached at least 90% coverage for 9 major vaccines in 2019.
17 million children missed routine vaccinations in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
236,000 deaths in 2019 were caused by meningitis, a vaccine-preventable disease.

Assessing geographic overlap between zero-dose diphtheria–tetanus–pertussis vaccination prevalence and other health indicators

This study aims to evaluate the degree of spatial overlap between the prevalence of children who have never received a dose of the diphtheria–tetanus–pertussis-containing vaccine (no-DTP) and other health-related indicators, to provide insight into the potential for joint geographic targeting of integrated service delivery efforts.

Estimating global and regional disruptions to routine childhood vaccine coverage during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020: a modelling study

The COVID-19 pandemic and efforts to reduce SARS-CoV-2 transmission substantially affected health services worldwide. To better understand the impact of the pandemic on childhood routine immunisation, we estimated disruptions in vaccine coverage associated with the pandemic in 2020, globally and by Global Burden of Disease (GBD) super-region.

Evaluating Gavi immunization programs

In Bangladesh, Mozambique, Uganda, and Zambia, we collected data and analyzed vaccination programs run by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.
