Biography
Herbert Chad Duber, MD, MPH, is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Health Metrics Sciences and an Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Washington. He works clinically at the University of Washington Medical and Harborview Medical Centers in Seattle.
Dr. Duber’s work focuses on health systems development, program monitoring and evaluation, and determinants of health outcomes. He is also interested in health policy and social determinants of health among vulnerable populations. Dr. Duber has worked clinically, served in public health roles, and conducted research in numerous countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Dr. Duber is currently the principal investigator (PI) or co-PI on several ongoing studies. These include a cross-country assessment of Global Fund impact; an evaluation of a novel system of care for STEMI patients in India and China sponsored by the Medtronic Foundation; and a CDC-funded subcontract for a population-based HIV survey in Nigeria.
Dr. Duber received his BA in Biology from Pomona College, after which he was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to study in Panama. He received his MD from the NYU School of Medicine and his MPH in International Health from the Harvard School of Public Health.
IHME was established at the University of Washington in Seattle in 2007. Its mission is to deliver to the world timely, relevant, and scientifically valid evidence to improve health policy and practice.
