Chronic myeloid leukemia — Level 4 cause

Summary There were 65 800 incident cases (95% UI 59 400–74 100), 29 900 deaths (27 000–33 500), and 1·05 million (0·924–1·19) DALYs due to chronic myeloid leukaemia globally in 2019.

Definition This cause includes death and disability resulting from invasive neoplasms of the blood and bone marrow (specifically chronic myeloid leukaemia), including ICD-10 codes such as C92.1, C92.2, and C93.1.

What is new in GBD 2019?
  • •New location-years of population-based cancer registry data were added, with a focus on paediatric cancer data.
  • •The minimum age group modelled was lowered from 15–19 to early neonatal (0–6 days).
  • •Mortality-to-incidence ratio models included additional data and were modified to perform more smoothing across time and age.
  • •Survival estimation was updated to use age-specific rather than all-ages survival curves, impacting age-specific prevalence and YLD estimates.
