What if I am looking for the salary range?
IHME cares about salary equity, and makes special effort to set salaries that are in line with what other IHME employees are making, and with years of education and experience. You can always reach out to [email protected] with any questions.
Do you accept applications from international candidates?
Yes, we do! At the moment, we are only able to sponsor visas and work permits for academic positions. If you are applying for a classified or professional position, we will ask you to provide proof of US work authorization.
Do you accept applications from veterans and under-represented groups?
Yes! We very much encourage members of under-represented groups to apply. At IHME, we are striving to increase diversity, knowing that doing so will lead to a workforce that is representative of our global community.
Do I have to submit a cover letter?
In a word, yes!
What type of references should I list on my application?
We ask for three references who can speak to your professional experience. One must be from a previous supervisor. We recommend that you contact them prior to listing their names in order to ensure their contact information remains current.
Can I contact the hiring department directly?
Due to the number of applications we receive, we are unable to field direct calls about vacancies.
How do I know my resume was received?
You may check on the status of your application by logging back into hr.uw.edu/jobs/.
Can I apply for more than one position?
We encourage you to state on your cover letter that you have applied for another position, and that you provide details such as the position title and the approximate date that you applied.
I just applied. What can I expect?
Your application will be screened by the University of Washington central human resources team to determine if it meets minimum qualifications. If it does, it will be sent to the IHME human resource team. From there, it will be shared with the hiring team assembled for this particular position. All applications are then reviewed by the hiring team assembled for this position. We often do a quick screening check by phone or email. From there, you may be invited to a first-round interview.
What will I experience if I am invited to an interview at IHME?
If your application meets minimum qualifications and is chosen by the hiring team, you will be screened by phone or email. From there you may be invited to an interview with a panel or a series of individuals who are familiar with the functions of the particular job. Some positions require a test. Some positions require a second-round interview. In interviewing you, we are trying to understand your current capabilities and how we may contribute to your growth. We value learning, intelligence, intellect, problem solving, and hard work.
I know the University of Washington application system strips resumes of most formatting. I want the interviewers to see my resume as I created it. What should I do?
If you would like the interview team to see your formatted application, please submit four paper copies of your resume or CV to your Human Resources liaison.
How soon will I know if a hiring decision has been made?
We strive to let our candidates know as soon as possible if a hiring decision has been made, but many factors contribute to the timeline. Feel free to reach out to [email protected] to check for an update.
How can I send a thank-you letter to my interviewers?
Please email the thank-you to your IHME Human Resources liaison. They will ensure it is distributed to the appropriate parties.
If I am hired, will I work for IHME, or for the university, or for the State of Washington?
All three! If you are hired, you will work at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation which is part of the University of Washington, which is a state entity. In shorthand, you will be a state employee.
Why did I not receive an invite for an interview? I am qualified.
We receive many competitive applications. Please do not let this discourage you. Feel free to apply to other positions with us for which you are qualified.
