How we hire

Our guide to hiring outlines each step of the process, including some tips and tricks from our hiring teams.

Find a job that’s right for you

Whether you are an experienced public health professional, new to the workforce, or making a career change, we have a place for you on our team.

  • Browse job descriptions: Hiring teams strive to include as much information as possible about their team, their work, and the role. You might also get a better understanding of the type of work we do at IHME.
  • Hear from IHMErs: Take your job search a step further and check out our employee blog. There you’ll find stories about our employee experiences and their work.

Apply for a role

When you find a job(s) you’re interested in – please apply! IHME is part of the University of Washington, so when you click the “Apply” button you will be taken to the university’s hiring portal.

  • Before you apply: Make sure your resume is up to date, that you have a cover letter prepared, and that you have three professional references. The UW has great tips on what to include in your resume.
  • Track your application: Your application will be screened by the UW central human resources team for minimum qualifications. This may take up to 3 weeks. We recommend using the UW Hires portal to track the status of your application.

Applications that meet minimum requirements are sent to the IHME human resource team. From there, they will be shared with the hiring teams to review.

Interview and meet the hiring team

If your application meets minimum qualifications and is chosen by the hiring team, you will be contacted via email or phone. This is a great time to start brushing up on your interview skills!

  • Screening call or email: We often do a quick screening check by phone or email. From there, you may be invited to an in-person or virtual interview.
  • Interviews: You may be invited to an interview with a group or a series of individuals who are familiar with the job you applied for. Some positions require follow-up interviews. Interviews help us learn more about you, your experiences, and how we may contribute to your growth. It’s also an opportunity for you to ask us questions.
  • Assessments: Some positions may require further understanding of your skills in a particular area. The job description will indicate if an assessment is required. Assessments typically take about 90 minutes to complete, and your hiring team will provide any necessary materials, if one is required for your position.
