Introducing our course in Global Burden of Disease, now available online

Published March 28, 2022

IHME is excited to announce the revamped Introduction to the Global Burden of Disease training, now available online

In addition to our COVID-19 projections, IHME also leads the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD), the single largest scientific effort to measure trends and levels in population health, in partnership with more than 7,000 collaborators in over 156 countries and territories.

Course content and goals

This introductory training gives an overview of the GBD study and the analytical methods used to model the estimates.

Participants will gain:

  • A strong understanding of the summary measures of health in a video narrated by IHME Director Chris Murray.
  • Knowledge of the data collection and modeling process of a disease, injury, impairment, or risk factor through a case study developed by expert GBD researchers.
  • Awareness of how our global collaborators use GBD estimates to influence health policy.
  • Basic fluency in the GBD Compare data visualization tool.
